Delilah D. at the Library

Delilah D. at the Library

Written by Jeanne Willis

Delilah D. is the Queen of a land that is far, far, far away.  As the Queen of this far away land, Delilah gets to make up the rules.  Her stubborn and creative imagination takes her to the library where she runs into Library Anne’s set of rules.  Where Queen Delilah comes from, you can eat cupcakes in the library and use a trapeze to reach too-high books!  By the end, Queen Delilah draws even Library Anne, or should it be Astronaut Anne, into using her imagination.

Ideas and Activities:

This is a fantastically, fun book to approach expectations in the library media center.  Not just rules and expectations, but how the library media center is a FUN, EXCITING place to be.   The students can make aluminum foil space hats. (or whatever fun item you would like to make)  Tell them their imaginations are automatically turned on when their hats are placed on their heads.  Take them on a tour around the library media center.  Make sure to make it exciting and use your imagination about what could possibly happen in a book!
