Fartiste
Written by Kathleen Krull and Paul Brewer
Illustrated by Boris Kulikov
Written in rhyming couplets, this mostly true story of Joseph Pujol, tell how this once famous peformer entertained crowds at the Moulin Rouge by farting. Any book that uses the word "fart" is guaranteed to make students laugh.
Ideas and Activities:
Of course, the introduction to this book must involve the use of a whoopee cushion! Have a cushion hidden on a chair, sit down very seriously to read the story to the kids. Of course, riotous laughter will ensue when you sit, so be sure to give a dramatic, embarrassed reaction. Introduce the story title and discuss why saying the word "fart" might make people laugh.
