Big Chickens Fly the Coop

The chickens are back! Four big chickens have conquered some of their silly fears and are ready now to venture out in the big world. Their destination…the farmhouse!   “We have always wanted to see the farmhouse.”  So, four big chickens fly the coop in search of the farmhouse. Ridiculous, absurd happenings occur as they flounce, trounce and body-bounce across the farmyard. 

Ideas and Activities:

This is a great entertaining book to discuss overcoming fears.  The students may tell what obstacles were in the chickens’ way and how they kept “heading out” to search for the farmhouse they had always wanted to see.   The students may share some fears or obstacles they have worked hard to overcome. 

Big Chickens Fly the Coup is also a hilarious book to have a lesson on verbs.  The book can be passed on to the classroom teacher to extend the lesson.
