Jumpy Jack & Googily
Written by Meg Rosoff
Illustrated by Sophie Blackall
Jumpy Jack is a snail who is very afraid of monsters. His best friend Googily helps him take care of his fear by checking for monsters everywhere they go and reassuring Jumpy Jack that there are no scare monsters around. The pictures of the characters make this story, as kids will quickly point out that Googily himself is a monster.
Ideas and Activities:
Pretend like you are scared of a monster being under your chair (or desk, table, etc.). Ask the kids if they have ever been scared of monsters under their beds or in their closets. Ask them to describe what monsters look like. After sharing the story, have them draw a picture of a what a monster looks like to them. Consider joining in the Monster Exchange project. |
