One More Sheep

One More Sheep

Written by Mij Kelly

On a blustery, storming night, Sam gathers his precious lambkins in and tucks them in.  Of course, Sam wants to make sure he didn’t leave any precious ones out in the storm, so he needs to count each one to make sure they are all safe.  Unfortunately, counting sheep, does to him exactly was it is suppose to do.  It puts him to sleep!  The sheep are appalled that he would dare fall asleep before he is absolutely sure they are safe.
The author does a great job at giving the sheep comical personalities and in using rhymes to create a fun counting book.

Ideas and Activities:

As the students come into the library media center, (you might be wearing a sleep hat or baggie pajamas), count the students as they are getting settled.  Somewhere in the middle of counting, fall asleep with a LOUD snore.  Of course, don’t respond to their first attempts to wake you.
Have the students get in groups and have each group come up with a fun, memorable way to get Sam all the way to number 10.  If time allows, have them perform their suggestions.
